Music and Worship

Here at St Bot's, we want to be a church that sings well! The Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Colossians:

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." Colossians 3:16

One of the best ways we can do this is to memorize the words of songs; those written in our lifetime but also some of the great hymns that have served the people of God for generations.

So, over the next few months, we'll be memorizing the words of some well-known hymns - a hymn a month for six months. To help us, we'll be singing the hymn for that month every week of the month. Then, by the last Sunday of the month, we'll sing it without the aid of projected words.

To start us off for the month of June, we're learning Crown Him With Many Crowns. The words are below as well as a link to a simple recording of the tune so you can sing along at home!

Verse 1
Crown Him with many crowns
The Lamb upon His throne
Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own
Awake my soul and sing
Of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity

Verse 2
Crown Him the Lord of life
Who triumphed o'er the grave
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save
His glories now we sing
Who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die
>

Verse 3
Crown Him the Lord of love
Behold His hands and side
Rich wounds yet visible above
In beauty glorified
No angel in the sky
Can fully bear that sight
But downward bends each burning eye
At mysteries so bright

Verse 4
Crown Him the Lord of heaven,
enthroned in worlds above;
crown Him the King to whom is given
the wondrous name of love:
all hail, Redeemer, hail!
for Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.
